A Step By Step Guide to a Dental Veneer Treatment

Do you have cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged teeth? Here’s what to expect from a veneer treatment and how this innovative cosmetic treatment can help give you a brighter, more beautiful smile.

Do you feel self-conscious about your teeth when you talk and/or smile? If the answer is yes, then your dentist may suggest using veneers to address your concerns. This cosmetic treatment is very popular, and has many benefits, including:

  • They can be customised in terms of shape and color to give you the most natural results
  • Your natural teeth remain largely intact, with only a minimal amount being altered

Dental Veneer Consultation: What to Expect

The first step to achieving a beautiful smile is to schedule a consultation with your cosmetic dentist. They will be able to review your medical history, oral health, and aesthetic goals, to determine if you’re a good candidate for dental veneers.

Typically, veneers are often recommended for patients who have teeth that are:

  • Chipped
  • Gapped
  • Discolored
  • Irregularly shaped
  • Crooked

If your dentist determines that you’re not a good candidate for veneers, don’t worry! There are many cosmetic dentistry procedures that can be used to repair your smile, including dental crowns and implants.

Dental Veneer Procedure: Step by Step Guide

The dental veneer procedure is a simple and safe treatment, when performed by a qualified and professional dentist. However, to ensure you are most comfortable during your procedure, it’s important to know what to expect.

Here are the steps in a dental veneer procedure:

1. Dental Impressions

Once enough enamel has been removed to make room for your veneers, dental impressions will then be taken of your teeth and sent to the lab. The veneers should be ready in 1-2 weeks.

2. Adjustments

When you come back for your second appointment, your dentist will want to make sure your veneers are the right shape, size, and color for your teeth. Adjustments will be made if necessary because your dentist will want to ensure that your smile looks and feel natural.

3. Bonding

Once your dentist is satisfied with how the veneers look, they’ll clean and polish your receiving teeth for the bonding process. This is done so that the veneers bond strongly to the fronts of your teeth. Once the veneers are attached, any excess cement is removed, and your dentist will check your bite.

4. Enamel Removal

To prevent your teeth from looking too bulky with the veneers, your dentist will need to remove the top layer of enamel from the fronts of your teeth. While local anesthesia isn’t required, your dentist can administer a pain reliever to reduce any discomfort.
