Calgary Dentist

At Marlborough Dental Centre, NE Calgary Dentist, Dr. Michael Popp and his team offer the best cosmetic, restorative and dental rehabilitation solutions with the unique needs of each patient in mind.

We understand that it can be hard to schedule a visit around the demands of work and life. Book your appointment on evenings and weekends when it is convenient for you and your family to visit the clinic. Our patients are important to us. Our mandate is to offer dental solutions that accommodate rather than inconvenience.

Dr. Popp’s team offers a wide range of dental solutions; in addition to general dentistry such as teeth cleanings, whitening, and tooth fillings Dr. Popp personally oversees cases related to major restorative cosmetic and comprehensive care.

Like all other factors related to health and well being, different life cycles require different levels of attention. Whether you or your family member is visiting us for an oral examination or dental implants, Marlborough Dental Centre's team of Calgary dentists is equipped with the expertise and technology to offer the appropriate care and consideration.

At Marlborough Dental Centre, we choose the BriteSmile® tooth whitening system. This gentle treatment can brighten you teeth in about one hour; on average your teeth are whitened by more than 9 shades!

Though a series of nearly invisible, completely removable plastic aligners, Invisalign® gradually moves your teeth to give you the beautiful smile you have always wanted - without braces or wires. We offer Invisalign® at our office as an alternative to metal braces.

Intraoral Cameras

Intraoral Camera’s lens delivers clear, detailed images patients can really understand. Featuring high still image resolution, our Intraoral Cameras ensures "picture perfect" shots each and every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a "Family Dentist"?

A general family dentist is licensed to provide a wide range of dental treatments for all ages, including children, teens, adults, and seniors.

Family dentists not only have the training required for comprehensive dental care, they also have the experience necessary for working with different family members.

A good family dentist like Dr. Popp knows how to build a positive rapport with everyone from kids to elders. He’ll ensure that each family member feels safe, comfortable, and respected during every dental treatment.

We recommend that you come in to see us for dental exams and cleanings at least twice a year. This timing for regular dental visits helps ensure that we can detect, prevent, and treat any dental concerns for you before the problem becomes serious.

Great dental health is hard to miss.

When you practice good oral hygiene, you have:

  • Clean teeth with no excess plaque
  • Pink, even, healthy-looking gums
  • Minimal tooth sensitivity to hot or cold foods
  • Long-lasting fresh breath

Good dental hygiene and regular dental check-ups are the best way to prevent tooth cavities.

A tooth cavity forms when the bacteria in your mouth feed on sugary foods and produce acid. This acid causes a small hole or cavity to form on your teeth. Left untreated, the cavity will lead to an infection with pain, sensitivity, and swelling around the area.

Often, the initial stages of a cavity are painless, so it’s important to see your dentist regularly to detect and treat any cavities before they get worse.

Most at-home or DIY tooth whitening kits deal with mild surface stains on your teeth. These treatments involve a standard bleaching tray that you wear for short periods of time. Since DIY tooth whitening kits come ready-made, they are not customized to fit your teeth well or produce significant changes in the colour of your teeth.

At Marlborough Dental Centre, we offer the BriteSmile® system for professional tooth whitening. This treatment lets us customize the intensity and application of the brightening agent just for you. BriteSmile® is extremely effective, whitening your teeth by up to 9 shades.

A knocked out or dislodged tooth is a dental emergency. Call us as soon as possible to book an appointment for treatment. We’ll examine the area and determine the best surgical procedure to either reinstall your original tooth or insert an artificial dental implant.

At Marlborough Dental Centre, our goal is to provide you with the best dental care tailored to the specific needs of you and your family. We want to provide treatment options that accommodate, rather than inconvenience.

The cost of different dental procedures can be a significant concern for families, so we make sure that we offer our dental services at competitive rates and make the direct billing process as easy as possible with your insurance provider.

Our administrative team has lots of experience with dental plan coverage and costs. We’ll work with you to assess your type of dental insurance coverage and set up the appropriate process for direct billing if applicable.

What are the typical costs for dental care in Calgary?

Many different factors affect the final cost of your dental treatment, including the severity of the problem, materials we use, specialized skills required for advanced treatments, and amount of time it takes to perform your treatment.

We aim to combine the best of competitive pricing and high quality dental care. See the dental cost averages below for a rough estimate of how much a particular dental procedure may cost.*

Cost Ranges for General Dental Care

  • Dental Exams: $50 to $100
  • Dental Cleanings: $60 to $200
  • Dental Bonding & Fillings: $120 to $185 per tooth
  • Wisdom Tooth Extraction: $200 to $600

Cost Ranges for Cosmetic Dentistry

  • Invisalign®: $5,000 to $8,000
  • BriteSmile® Tooth Whitening: $400 to $900
  • Veneers: $700 to $1,300

Cost Ranges for Restorative Dental Procedures

  • Dental Bridges & Crowns: $750 to $1,500 per tooth
  • Dentures: $650 to $1,200 for partial dentures, $1,300 to $2,800 for full dentures
  • Dental Implants: $1,650 to $2,300 per tooth
  • Root Canal Therapy: $600 to $1,500 per tooth

*Please note that these averages are estimates only. The cost for your specific treatment will vary. We provide a clear overview of your specific dental treatment costs before we begin any procedure.

How does direct billing work?

In direct billing, we send the bill for your dental treatment directly to your dental insurance provider. This means that you only need to pay a small co-payment for the remaining amount not covered by your insurance plan at the time of your visit. Our team can help you determine if you are eligible for direct billing.

How much will my dental insurance plan cover?

From our experience, insurance providers commonly cover about 70 to 90% of the cost for standard procedures under general dental care. These include oral exams, dental cleanings, fillings, and wisdom tooth extraction.

For example, an oral exam may cost you $100 without insurance coverage, but only $30 with insurance coverage.

Specialized restorative dental procedures often have less insurance coverage at about 50%.

To illustrate, a dental crown without insurance could cost you $1,500 per tooth. With insurance, you would need to pay about $750 out of pocket.

Typical dental insurance coverage ranges:

  • General Dental Care: 70% to 90% cost coverage
  • Cosmetic Dentistry: 0 to 50% cost coverage
  • Restorative Dental Procedures: 50% cost coverage

We’re here to help you achieve great dental health with expert, caring, and convenient dental care.

Want a healthy smile for life? Proper dental hygiene is the one of easiest, most effective things you can do to keep your teeth and gums in great shape over time.

At Marlborough Dental Centre, we find that good dental hygiene is a classic case of an ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure. Keeping your teeth and gums clean helps you avoid tooth decay and gum disease later on.

The effects of proper oral hygiene are also cumulative. When you and your family start good dental hygiene practices early in life, you can prevent the serious dental problems that often occur with age.

Dr. Popp and the team care will provide regular professional dental cleaning in our clinic and we’ll show you how to practice great dental hygiene at home.

Professional dental cleaning

Our team of experienced, gentle dental hygienists will carefully clean your teeth and gums to remove any plaque or tartar buildup. During the process, we can use an intraoral camera, a pen-sized device that lets you see inside your mouth. Once your dental cleaning is complete, we’ll review any issues we may have spotted in the cleanliness of your tooth and provide a quick refresher on how to clean your teeth well.

Practicing good oral hygiene at home:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste
  • Floss your teeth every day
  • Avoid sugary foods and soda
  • Eat a diet rich in vegetables and non-acidic fruits
  • Monitor your mouth and teeth for signs of infection or decay, such as bad breath and bleeding gums
  • Schedule regular oral exams and dental cleanings with your dentist

Proper dental hygiene is extremely important for the long-term health of your teeth and gums. That’s why Dr. Popp and the team make your oral hygiene a priority at our friendly and experienced dental clinic.

It’s no fun when you have a serious dental emergency like severe toothache or a knocked-out tooth. Many of these dental incidents happen quickly and when you least expect them.

That’s why Marlborough Dental Centre offers same or next day appointments to treat a dental emergency and our flexible clinic is open on evenings and weekends. You can come in to see us as soon as possible, even if your dental emergency happens outside of regular business hours.

You’ll have the best treatment outcomes if you receive immediate professional care.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re experiencing one of the dental emergencies listed below.

Regular dental exams are essential to you and your family’s oral health.

These check-ups help us assess the impact of recent health changes on your teeth, spot any signs of tooth decay or disease, and develop the right dental treatment plan for you.

Many dental problems are not readily noticeable to the average person, so only an experienced, trained dentist can perform a proper dental exam.

Our caring team of experienced dental professionals will make sure that you and your family feel comfortable during every dental visit and exam.

Dental exams are an important part of your ongoing dental health, so we want you to come visit us regularly and make it a lifelong habit!

How it works

We’ll start by reviewing your recent medical history to determine if any new health issues, procedures, or medications may be affecting your teeth.

From there, we may perform dental X-Rays to check the health of your teeth, jawbone and gums.

Dr. Popp will then perform a comprehensive exam of your mouth, checking the condition of your teeth, gums, jawbone, temporomandibular joint, and mouth. This assessment will help him spot any signs of decay, disease, worn dental work, and oral cancer.

Once we’ve completed your dental exam, we’ll review our findings with you and provide guidance on how to take excellent care of your teeth and gums.

  • Identifies any potential dental problems early when they are the easiest to treat
  • Measures the health of dental bones and tissues that you cannot see normally
  • Provides a good assessment of how well you’re cleaning your teeth and gums, including guidance on areas to improve
  • Reinforces a habit of good self-care and dental hygiene for you and your family
  • Ensures early detection and treatment for serious oral health issues, such as oral cancer

Regular dental exams will help you keep your teeth and gums in great shape. Our friendly, knowledgeable team will make you feel welcome and comfortable during every visit.
