Bonding. James Bonding. When it comes to dental care, many people ask us what bonding is? And no, it’s not that lovable spy from the movies. Bonding is actually a painless form of restoration for teeth that are in need of minor repairs. When it comes to teeth restoration Dr. Michael Popp has you covered with bonding.
Bonding involves the use of tooth-coloured composite resin (which is a type of filler material) that can be matched to your teeth. The bonding can be shaped and sized to fix a chipped tooth and can be used to fill gaps between your teeth. The resin can also be used to cover a stained tooth by matching the bonding with the colour of your teeth.
When you walk into the Marlborough Dental Centre in NE Calgary to get any kind of bonding completed, the first step is to create a matrix around the tooth that needs repair. The matrix essentially protects your other teeth from any bonding resin that may splash onto them. Dr. Popp then applies a chemical to the broken/chipped tooth, which will make the tooth rough in texture, allowing the composite resin to bond to the enamel. Dr. Popp applies the composite resin in layers and, after each layer, a light is used to harden the material. After the final layer of composite resin is applied and hardened, Dr. Popp polishes the tooth and shapes it, thus fixing your chipped or broken tooth.
It’s important to note that dental bonding over time will naturally wear down and, when that happens, you can see Dr. Popp. for a touch up.
