After a root canal, your mouth may be sore and inflamed for a couple days, especially if you had an infection prior to the procedure. Often times, taking over the counter meds will alleviate any pain or tenderness. The majority of patients are back to normal the next day. During your recovery time it is wise to be aware of the following:
- Chewing can agitate your healing tooth and even spread infection to this area, so try to minimize chewing initially
- To prevent infections, keep your mouth as clean as possible with brushing and gentle mouthwash
- Continue your regular oral hygiene routine, but be careful around your repaired tooth especially when flossing and brushing
- Continue attending regular dental check ups
To best prevent your chances of needing additional dental work, you should always visit your dentist regularly and maintain a comprehensive oral hygiene routine including regular dental checkups. If you need to schedule to a dental appointment or if you have any questions regarding your oral health, call Dr. Michael Popp today in NE Calgary at 403.248.2066.
